Last week I headed out to the West coast to visit some potential sites for an upcoming JetSetTrader 3-day seminar on trading psychology. My first stop was in Los Angeles, where I stayed at the Hotel Palomar – a Kimpton hotel in Westwood. I have the say the location of the hotel is absolutely perfect.  It’s right off the 405, between Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, about 30 minute drive from LAX depending on traffic. Additionally, the hotel is in a great neighborhood and walking distance to Westwood Village.

The hotel lobby is inviting and all the staff was extremely friendly including; valet, front desk and housekeeping.  I want to point this out because these days it’s very rare that you find a hotel that is friendly and courteous at all levels and I wanted to acknowledge Kimpton Hotel’s for their customer service. When I initially made my reservation over the phone with Matthew, he was very courteous in asking me if I had any additional needs or wants. I thought this really stood out since these days; it is very rare to get this type of service and more importantly respect.

The lobby is very classy and elegant with the marble fireplace – very cool element with the red decorated walls. Free morning coffee, tea, and the late afternoon wine are very courteous gestures.  The rooms were extremely comfortable with a bigger than usual flat screen.  The room décor was consistent with the luxury theme of the hotel. Most importantly the rooms were very clean and smelled fresh.  The ETRO bath amenities rock and show how Kimpton Hotels has aligned themselves with a distinguished luxury brand.

As a day trader, obviously internet connection is critical and reliable, which it was. What’s even better is that Internet connection was free. The hotel’s I typically stay at charge anywhere from $10 to $15 for 24 hours usage. The only problem you will have at this hotel is that you feel guilty when you have to step out.

Other inviting amenities include the pool and the organic restaurant BLVD 16, which utilzies fresh local produce for its signature dishes. Staying consistent with the hotel theme, BLVD 16 has a very unique contemporary ambiance. For people who can’t be away from their pets, the hotel is pet friendly. Additionally, the neighborhood is perfect to take your dog on a nice walk.

Overall, it seems like Kimpton Hotel’s is my new favorite boutique hotel group. Just a side note, I stayed at the W Los Angeles – Westwood about two months ago. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Palomar over The W in Westwood, because the rooms are much nicer (more luxurious/comfortable), hotel seemed quieter, and most importantly cleaner.

Next stop is Miami……
